Tamminya House provides safe and secure accommodation for parents and children escaping from an unsafe environment due to domestic abuse.
The support of the Rotary Club of Rowville Lysterfield currently is
• Providing hampers to raffle for their Christmas fundraising raffle • Providing funds for their Christmas lunch in 2023 • Providing funds for Christmas gifts for the resident children in 2023 • Providing Mothers’ Day pamper packs in May 2024 • The garden at the house has been reorganised and tidied up by several Rotarians to enable planting of vegetables • Sandpit and play area has been refurbished • A grant has been applied for and approved from Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS). This grant matches funds from the Club which are being used to refurbish a verandah area to make it an all weather play and social area for the families living in Tamminya House.
Tamminya House Project Update
A recent project has been completed by our Club to provide a more homelike and comfortable environment for the residents, both mothers and children at Tamminya House.
Tamminya House provides a place of refuge for families escaping unsafe domestic situations. While in this safe and supportive environment, the families are assisted to negotiate the path towards a more permanent form of housing and the adjustment to their new family situation.
Tamminya House is largely supported by the profits from an Opportunity Shop, so any further assistance is always much appreciated.
The opportunity arose for us to assist by replacing all the beds for the adults and the mattresses for the bunk beds for the children, as the ones in use were second hand when they were procured a number of years ago. Fresh new mattresses are good for ensuring better sleep but are also a boost for the self-esteem of the women and children who find themselves in this situation.
This bedding was made available by virtue of a District Foundation Grant of $2000, matched by our Club for $2120, and with an excellent deal provided by Knox Snooze.
