The decision to change venue for the annual Girls Night Out took some courage, but there is no doubt this event, in the new venue, was a raging success. The room was beautifully presented, the food gained very positive reviews and the very up-to-date technology was able to be put to good use in a number of ways.
Due to the hard work of the committee promoting the event and seeking donations, 135 ladies were booked in and an enormous array of raffle prizes and silent auctions were on offer. The impact walking into see all the cellophane-wrapped goodies was quite breathtaking. As the guests arrived, the men were kept busy selling raffle tickets, balloons, books etc and there was brisk activity at the silent auction tables. The yellow balloons really added a pop of colour to the room, complementing the yellow napkins.
Our guest speaker, Veronica Abruzzo from the Julia Argyrou Centre for research into endometriosis, was charming and gave an informative presentation. She was accompanied by Heather Maynier, the Research Donor Relations Manager at Epworth Healthcare. Both women were very appreciative of being invited.
The success of this event was in no small measure due to the enthusiastic efforts of so many members of the club, too numerous to mention. To everyone involved, from major donors, those who sourced the venue, donations and tables of friends, our menfolk who worked hard all night, our MC, tech guru, planning committee, speaker liaison, book wrappers, balloon blowers, hamper wrappers….thank you all.
When the takings were tallied and tyro details accessed, the final result was an amazing $8000 to be donated to the Julia Argyrou Centre! Well done, Rotary Club of Rowville Lysterfield.
