This boarding school is in a remote area of Uganda and has been run for 23 years by an Australian-born teacher. It is for the extremely impoverished community and to provide opportunity for the disadvantaged. Although free, students, parents and carers are asked to provide some support in terms of food or money if possible, to help with the support of the student.
The aim of education at FCU is for the students to be cared for, to gain meaningful employment and to learn techniques in agriculture. It has achieved remarkable results in the educational outcomes achieved and able students have been identified who are able to move on to gain tertiary qualifications. All this is to provide an improved quality of life for the students and the community. FCU also is successful in bringing together groups of students from diverse tribal groups and backgrounds to live harmoniously.
The Rotary club has supported Family Care Uganda by providing scholarships for several able students to move on to specialized secondary schools and then into University. Individual club members have also supported students with financial assistance for their schooling.

As we approach the Christmas season, it is timely to think about those who will not have the Christmas that we will have and reach out to them with some Christmas cheer.
