Sri (Shoe) Lankan Gala Dinner Dance

This fantastic night started out with
Vikuman Jayawardene, a youth member of the Committee for Sri Lanka, doing a sterling job as MC.
Then the Charperson of the Committee for Sri Lanka, Mrs Viv Cooray, welcomed and thanked everyone for coming along and supporting this wonderful project.
Darren had an opportunity to thank the Committee for Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan community as a whole, and explain how the Rotary Foundation could turn an inital seed of $3,000 into a $28,000 project.
It was also wonderful to have
DG David Alexander at the event, as he also got up and said a few kind words.

Much of the kudos for the event must go to the Youth representatives of the Committee for Sri Lanka.
To represent that team, Savindi Perera (Youth Co-ordinator - above) and
Gavishka Jayawardene (Pradeep's son) also got up and talked briefly about the project.
A simply great effort from the young pair.

While the evening started out with the Rotarians and their partners sitting together, eventually the girls did what girls like to do.
Have a chat!

Leaving the boys to party alone ...
... as the band raged on!

Obviously, the whole point of the night was about fund raising, so a cheque for $2,500 was finally handed over to President Darren
by Mrs Viv Cooray and
Mr Nimal Aluthgamage (Chairperson and Treasurer of The Committee for Sri Lanka).
Pradeep, the driving force behind the whole project, finally gets his hands on the cheque too.
But ultimately, everyone has a vested interest in the wonderful success of the night.

In the end, it's impossible to heap too much praise on this
wonderful group for organising such a fantastic event.
